The Nature of Magic

All information is subject to change.

The city of Briarwood is like any other city, except that it on its outskirts lies a mysterious forest. The Briarwood residents have lived under a strict rule for some time, that they are not under any circumstances to enter this forest.

While Briarwood contains no apparent magic, the forest is the gateway to an ancient dimension where magic is a real force. It is home to a race of magical creatures from across many aspects of folklore, including winged fairies, gnomes, and elves. The creatures represent the good side of magic, but they are under identical rules they are not allowed to leave the dimension, and thus the forest, under any circumstances.

With these two laws in operation, the citizens of Briarwood and the forest have grown wary of each other. Some may even deny that the other people exist. Both sides are thus swamped with rumour of what lies beyond the edges of their respective domains, and humans have become suspicious of magical power, while the forest creatures are loathe to approach Briarwood for any reason.

But the two races must eventually come together to battle a third race of underground monsters. These denizens seek total destruction of the surface world, and command the dark side of magic at their will. Both Briarwood and the forest creatures are likely unaware of their existence, but their presence will no doubt be felt.

The union of the two races will be achieved by four Briarwood teenagers and one new visitor, who finally break the law and venture into the forest, to discover a magical legacy. Their heritage allows them to control the good side of magic that the forest produces, and to interact with the mystical creatures. They become the Mystic Force Power Rangers, representatives of the human and magical races, to combat the underground evil from destroying the surface.

The nature of MagiShine's counterpart, the sixth Ranger, is not yet known.

The magic in Mystic Force is divided into three groups of spells: Light, Dark, and Neutral spells.

Light Magic
Light spells represent the magic of good hearts and may only be cast by Power Rangers on the side of good, namely the five core teens and Udonna. They follow a set of ten specific syllables (see Magic Syllables) and can only be cast using a special magic wand owned by Light magicians which focuses their personal elemental power. In the case of the Mystic Rangers, whose wands were transformed into phone Morphers, Light spells must be activated by dialing the appropriate code.

Dark Magic
Only Koragg the Knight Wolf, the chivalrous sorcerer of the Underworld, is capable of casting these black magic spells. Intended to only work for the needs of the evil forces, Dark Magic has a chaotic nature and has no syllabic structure, but unlimited magical words drawn from Welsh, Greek, and Latin.

Neutral Magic
Neutral spells can theoretically be used by any magician of good or evil, since their effects are not intended to help or harm for either motive. Neutral Magic follows the same pattern as Dark Magic by having random words in place of a syllabic list, but Udonna and Clare, sorceresses for good, are both capable of casting these spells. The word variety is even more random than Dark Magic, and if the spell is fumbled, the effects can be equally random. Neutral magic does not require a magical tool as a focus but it is possible to use one for it.
