Q. What are your favourite Sentai and Power Ranger seasons? A. Space definitely. Thanks to Rangerboard I've been able to watch all of its episodes and developed a strong attachment to its characters and its plot. I also like anything related to astronomy and space travel so Space does that for me. Andros is an excellent character and Christopher Khayman Lee had only one season to work with him and he turned out great.
My current Sentai favourite is Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger, with its engrossing storylines and complex character relationships. It may soon be supplanted by GouGou Sentai Boukenger, the 2006 season. Magiranger falls just behind them.
Q. Why do you watch Magiranger?! It's the worst/goofiest/gayest/most boring Sentai season yet!
A. Yeah, parts of it are goofy, the magic theme is 'cuter' than earlier seasons, and Wolzard drives me up the wall for being another honourable Akuma 'Show me your true power' character, but it gives me something new to anticipate. At least Sentai/Power Rangers isn't like a Star Trek series; you only have to wait a year before the next installment.
Q. Who is your favourite Magiranger? Least favourite?
A. They all have things I like about them, but Tsubasa is definitely my favourite overall. I love his wit and sarcasm, and his fallibility in being the most mistrustful and doubtful of the team, very human. Tsubasa has no expectations of anything and is reserved enough to see deeper meanings. His element and MagiGaruda are also wicked, especially since he can pull it off without hands!
My least favourite is Urara. As much as they have their faults, the other four have made me laugh out loud at their antics at some point. Urara has never done this for me except to give a smirk now and then. Serious is necessary, but Urara takes it too far. She is warm but far too firm, with no playful sense of humour. Her ending also ruined one of the English fans' favourite running jokes of the series.
Q. Who is your favourite Mystic Ranger? Least favourite?
The series has only just started as of this writing, but Nick is the first Red Ranger in a long time who is quickly becoming my favourite. I love how the others shuffle and squirm around him as the new guy who rides into town suddenly one day, only to not only be the most skeptical of magic, but also becoming their leader!
I don't like Chip thus far as much as the other characters, but he provides good comic relief where necessary. My attitude of both of these will likely change as the series continues.
